Customer Advisory – Blockades Impact Canadian Rail Network UPDATE

Please be advised that the Canadian Rail Network is experiencing serious delays due to blockades in Tyendinaga, ON and New Hazelton, BC. The blockades are caused by Canada’s First Nations tribe demonstrations (protests unrelated to CN). These delays have backed up Canada’s Pacific Coast ports and container dwell times have increased at the ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert.
According to JOC*:“…the Port of Montreal said over the weekend that about 15 percent of the containers at the port were ‘immobilized’ by the blockades. But the vast majority of goods were unaffected… On Friday, CMA CGM told customers that… Montreal Gateway Terminals Partnership… had enacted a force majeure, asking for all inland cargo to be ‘evacuated immediately’.”
More than 300 trains have been canceled since the blockades began six days ago. It is anticipated that shutdowns on the Canadian network will continue unless the blockades end immediately.
