Customer Advisory – COVID 19 Update: South Asia

March 19, 2020

In view of the rapid increase in the number of Covid-19 cases in South Asia, the various countries’ governments have promoted safety measures such as “social distancing” in an effort to slow down the rise in cases.

  • India: The central and state governments have advised private companies to allow employees to work from home and reduce staff presence in offices. Our offices are now operating on a split home/office workforce and warehouse operations continue with no disruption. Ports, airports, rail terminals, trucking and related CFS activities will continue to operate as per normal. This arrangement will be enforced until March 31, and will be reviewed accordingly based on local authorities’ recommendations.
  • Sri Lanka: The local government declared a 4-day public holiday on March 16, and ordered all non-essential stores to remain closed until March 19. As of the date of this Advisory, the holidays could be extended until further notice based on incoming media reports. Our offices are now operating on a split home/office workforce. Port and related-CFS activities are operating as per normal, additional safety measures including screening of all visitors have been put in place. We will monitor the situation closely and update if any operational disruptions are anticipated.
  • Pakistan: Local governments have ordered for closure of all restaurants, malls and government offices for 15 days, effective March 15. Private companies have been advised to follow similar measures. Our offices are now operating on a split home/office workforce and warehouse operations continue with no disruption. Ports, airports, rail terminals, trucking and related CFS activities will continue to operate as per normal. This arrangement will be enforced until March 23, and will be reviewed accordingly based on local authorities’ recommendations.
  • Bangladesh: All educational institutions have been ordered to remain closed until March 31. As of the date of this Advisory, businesses remain open and ports, airports, trucking and related-CFS activities will continue to operate as normal. Employees in our Chittagong and Dhaka offices continue to report to work, but our local business continuity plans have been enacted and we are ready to deploy home workforce as necessary.

We will continue to provide updates as necessary. As always, information regarding the COVID-19, including Q&A, online training, technical guidelines, preventative measures, travel guidance, etc. can be found on the WHO website: https://www.who.int/health-topics/coronavirus, and we encourage you to reference local health authorities and guidelines in your area.
