Customer Advisory: Volume Surge & Equipment Imbalance
November 3, 2020
In recent weeks, Asia origin ports* are experiencing volume surges while also seeing multiple changes and disruptions in carriers’ services and vessel schedules. The convergence of both revised sailings and increased volumes is impacting ocean carrier space and empty equipment availability at Asia origin ports which is further exacerbated by increasing levels of congestion at container yards. In addition, many appointed truckers at Asia origins are raising concerns about extended waiting time or having to make multiple trips to secure empty equipment for confirmed bookings.
We strongly advise our customers to engage your nominated ocean carriers to highlight these concerns and secure commitment for accepting bookings and timely empty equipment allocation.
APL Logistics will continue to provide visibility to the situation, and work with you to prioritize booking and shipment activity. If you have questions or attention items, please contact your APL Logistics Account Manager or local APL Logistics office.
Sincerely,
APL Logistics
*Not limited to – North Asia: China (Shanghai, Ningbo, Qingdao, Yantian), South East Asia: Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh), South Asia: India (Mundra, Nhavasheva, Pipavav, Chennai, Tuticorin)
