Press Release: APL Logistics Awarded 2021 FutureEdge 50 Award

For Immediate Release

January 25, 2021

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZONA – APL Logistics is a 2021 FutureEdge 50 Award winner. The CIO Magazine recognizes cutting-edge trials and applications of emerging technologies. In presenting the award, Anne McCrory, Group VP of Customer Experience & Operations for IDG Communications, stated, “This year’s class of FutureEdge 50 winners demonstrated enormous innovation, creativity, and resilience as they grappled to advance their businesses during a challenging 2020.” APL Logistics will accept the award at CIO’s Future of Work Summit taking place online September 21-23, 2021.

Hakan Yaren, CIO of APL Logistics, commented, “At APL Logistics, we leverage data and technology to achieve customers’ sustainability goals. It’s an honor to be recognized by our peers for innovative utilization of data and technology.

APL Logistics uses existing transportation data to first measure customers’ downstream transportation supply chain emissions in accordance with the GHG Protocol (Scope 3, Category 9) and the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) framework. Using these baseline calculations, APL Logistics then identifies ways to inject efficiency programs into existing operations for long-term emissions reductions. For remaining carbon liability, APL Logistics partners with providers of certified and verified carbon offsets, renewable fuels, and new technologies to achieve up to 100% carbon-neutral product transportation. All progress and efficiencies can be tracked, managed, and analyzed through interactive dashboards tailored to each customer.

“The importance of our sustainability platform was highlighted last week when John Kerry, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate, announced the Biden Administration is poised to issue an Executive Order requiring financial firms to consider the climate risks of their investments,” said Thad Bedard, CCO at APL Logistics. “We know companies face an uphill battle to realize aggressive emissions commitments made to consumers, employees and investors; Executive Orders like this make meeting those commitments even more critical.”

In receiving this award, APL Logistics would particularly like to recognize the tireless commitment of Tapan Shah, APLL BI Developer. Under the guidance of Thomas Tran, Sr. Manager of Data Management and Analytics, and Jessica Balsam, Director of Sustainability, Tapan’s efforts brought the project vision to reality in delivering an industry-leading sustainability platform.
