APL Logistics Commits to Science-Based Targets-Promises to Slash 42% Of GHG Emissions by 2030
For Immediate Release
APL Logistics Ltd, a global leader in supply chain management, is proud to announce their aggressive and proactive near-term science-based climate commitments against a 2022 baseline.
SCOTTSDALE, AZ – April 21st, 2024 — As Earth Week kicks off around the world, the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved APL Logistics’ near-term science-based emissions reduction target. This report also shows it is still possible to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C. but we are dangerously close to that threshold. Collective and immediate action is imperative. With a 1.5°C-aligned goal, APL Logistics has achieved the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process. Our emissions reduction goals are as follows:
- 42% absolute reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030, from a 2022 baseline
- 42% absolute reduction of Scope 3 emissions by 2030, from a 2022 baseline
APL Logistics announced their commitment to setting science-based targets within their first annual Sustainability Report (available here) last fall. Over 5,000 businesses have made similar pledges in the effort to curb global warming to 1.5°C and meet the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement. SBTi partners with CDP, the World Resources Institute, the World Wide Fund for Nature, and the UN Global Compact.
“As a company with a very global presence, it is critical we raise the bar. The Science Based Targets initiate is holding us accountable to expeditiously minimize our emissions footprint. We hope our commitment can inspire and accelerate climate action across our sector, our vendors, and our customer base.”
– Eva James
APL Logistics officially committed to set targets with the SBTi in December 2022. We took the subsequent months to develop our targets, map out decarbonization efforts, and have our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions inventories verified in partnership with NSF Consulting. APL Logistics emphasizes the immediacy of large emission cuts across the supply chain and shipping industries. As a part of it’s commitment to SBTi, APL Logistics encourages any stakeholders or partners to get in touch with SBTi, align with climate science, and committing to science-based 1.5°C targets too.
The globally renowned 3PL has been in business for over 40 years and operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of KWE, a Japanese freight forwarder.
