Customer Advisory: Update 1 – ILA Prepares for Strike at East & Gulf Coast Ports

The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) is preparing for a strike against the U.S. Maritime Alliance (USMX). With only a week left before the collective bargaining agreement for 45,000 dockworkers expires, negotiations between the two groups have stalled. The ILA has stated that they will not work without a new contract or an extension of the existing one.
Ocean carriers and marine terminals at the U.S. East Coast and Gulf ports are working tirelessly to move as many containers as possible before the potential dockworker strike beginning on October 1. This situation could shut down all U.S. East and Gulf Coast ports, with inland exporters facing the most urgent deadlines to move their cargo. The U.S. government does not plan to intervene in the ILA strike; however, the situation remains fluid.
