Customer Advisory: Update1 – ILA and USMX Negotiations Stalled
January 8, 2025
As of today, labor negotiations between the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) remain unresolved. A tentative wage agreement was reached in October 2024, but discussions stalled in November. An official meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, but no updates have been released.
If an agreement is not reached by the deadline of Wednesday, January 15, 2025, labor strikes could occur, significantly impacting major U.S. East Coast and Gulf Coast ports. Should a strike take place, it will begin on Thursday, January 16, 2025, halting operations along the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts. Carriers have already started implementing proactive measures to mitigate the potential impact on cargo flow.
