Customer Advisory: Container Movement Suspended by Transport Workers
February 7, 2025
A strike by transport workers, beginning February 6, 2025, has completely halted container trailer movement at Chittagong Port, Bangladesh. All depots are affected, causing a standstill in container traffic. This disruption significantly impacts container movement, empty container placement, and dispatch. Negotiations between the Truckers Association and authorities, despite a tentative agreement reached on February 5 at 21:30, have failed to resolve the situation. The strike, stemming from a clash at DC Park in Sitakunda’s Faujdarhat area, continues due to drivers’ demands for the arrest of those who allegedly attacked them.
Impact on the Factory Side
- No impact on the factory side; vendors are able to move cargo to CFS.
- Vendors may not be able to perform factory loads as container movement has stopped.
Impact on Depots
- Import operations within depots and documentation tasks are proceeding as normal.
- There may be a scarcity of empty containers for stuffing as depots are unable to procure from the port.
- Export laden dispatch to the port is completely halted from all depots.
Impact on Chittagong Port
- Import deliveries from the port have been fully halted.
- Import and export documentation tasks are continuing.
- Discharging is proceeding without disruption.
- Vessel permissions are continuing.
- Export loading into vessels has been paused.
Activity Between Chittagong Port and Depots
- Import and empty container pickups from the port to depots have been suspended.
- Export dispatches from depots to the port have been stopped.
