My name is Camilla Martinez Rodriguez and I am associate manager of training and development in Chile, and for the missions in LATAM (Mexico, Brazil, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, and Guatemala). You could say I have a double role at APL Logistics. I joined in 2013 to work with the HR team in the area of recruitment and selections after receiving a call from my ex-boss. I didn’t know anything about logistics, I’d never worked at a multinational company before, and it sounded like an interesting challenge. So I thought, “Why not?”

I began my career at APL Logistics in the role of recruitment and selection analyst. After learning the ropes for a short while, my boss gave me the opportunity to switch roles and work in the area of training and development in HR. It was more dynamic and my boss was already there as the HR LATAM. I jumped at the chance.

While in my new role, my boss gave me the opportunity to join the Management Development Programme (MDP). It is uniquely designed to build my capacity to lead my team into the future. It was a fantastic chance to challenge my views about management, expand my horizons, and enhance my understanding in my role.

I strongly believe that APL Logistics does everything it can to create a more family-friendly workplace. We have several activities where we can invite our own family to join in. For example, at our last annual dinner, everyone was encouraged to bring their parents and kids. I thought it was a great way to bring families closer together.

Then in our last Christmas party, there was a painting contest for children to take part in. That reminds me, this company also brings us all together to take part in various activities for the annual Chilean Teleton – raising funds for the rehabilitation of children with disabilities.

Taking a job at APL Logistics has been the most fantastic career move of my life. It’s gratifying to see how much the company values the people they hire and I appreciate the opportunities I’ve received to help me grow and develop as an employee.

This company has become a home for me over the years, and the people I’ve worked with have been among the most talented professionals I’ve seen. I’m proud to be part of that legacy, and to have APL Logistics be a part of mine.
