Customer Advisory: ILA and USMX Negotiations Stalled
December 13, 2024
The International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) are engaged in extended labor negotiations, with a critical deadline of January 15, 2025. If an agreement is not reached by this date, labor strikes could occur, significantly impacting major U.S. East and Gulf Coast ports.
On October 3, a tentative wage agreement was reached, but when both parties met in November, discussions on technology-related issues caused negotiations to stall. The situation remains fluid as we await further developments, with the likelihood of a strike on January 15 increasing without a settled contract.
